Founded in 1963 by the Most Reverend Walter W. Curtis, Bishop of the Diocese of Bridgeport, Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut is the second-largest Catholic university in New England and the first in America to be led and staffed by lay people. The University lives by its mission of deepening human understanding through the celebration of diversity, and welcomes students of all faiths. 6,000 students are enrolled in over 40 undergraduate, master, and doctoral programs in the University's College of Arts & Sciences, College of Education & Health Professions, and AACSB-International accredited John F. Welch College of Business.
Sacred Heart University is located one hour north of New York City and 2 ½ hours south of Boston, Massachusetts. Drawing on the resources in New England and New York City, students are connected with cultural and experiential learning opportunities which are complemented by a rich student life program on campus offering over 80 student organizations, including a 31-sport Division I Athletics program, among the largest in the nation.
Study abroad opportunities are offered worldwide, including at the University’s own campuses in Luxembourg and County Kerry, Ireland. Other popular sites include University-sponsored programs in Rome, Spain, Australia, Bermuda, and the Bahamas.
International airports by which to travel to Sacred Heart University include JFK (New York City), Newark (New Jersey) and Bradley (Hartford, CT).
