The University of Kansas
Located in the midwestern state of Kansas, The University of Kansas is famous for its beautiful woodland campus. Lawrence, a community of nearly 100,000, is about 64 km west of the major metropolitan area of Kansas City and 32 km east of Topeka, the Kansas state capital. Lawrence is a small city with a friendly atmosphere: the cost of living and crime rate are much lower than major U.S. cities. KU is conveniently located less than 90 km from Kansas City International Airport (MCI). An attractive downtown shopping district is within walking distance of the campus. Kansas weather has four distinct seasons: warm autumns (14° C), mild springs (14° C), hot summers (30° C), and cold winters (0° C).
Founded in 1866, KU is the largest public university in the state of Kansas, and is famous for the strength of its academic programs. Enrolling over 30,000 students, including more than 2,000 international students, KU is ranked among the top 40 public universities in academic reputation by the 2011 U.S. News & World Report “America’s Best Colleges.” KU is a member of the Association of American Universities, a select group of leading higher education institutions in the U.S. and Canada. The Carnegie Foundation identifies KU as a research university with very high research activity, the classification given to top research universities.
A major comprehensive teaching and research institution with 14 academic schools, KU offers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in more than 175 fields and an intensive English program. http://www.ku.edu/academics/schools.shtml
