Whether a student must submit ACT or SAT scores is up to the specific college or university where the student is applying. The best source for an answer to the question of whether a student is required to submit ACT or SAT scores is the admissions office(s) of the institution(s) where the student is applying to study. Typically 2-year colleges will not request ACT or SAT scores, but will instead request that the student take a placement test such as COMPASS or AccuPlacer. Again, it is best to ask the college specifically.

For many universities, the ACT or SAT is not required for admission. You can, however, use this to waive the TOEFL requirement to some programs. It is important to ask this question of the specific school to which you are applying. If it is required, you'll want to give yourself enough time to register and prepare. If it is not a requirement, you can avoid the time and cost associated. Julie Soper International Admissions Advisor University of Nebraska at Omaha SKYPE ID: juliesoper PH: 402.554.2293

The majority of 4-year colleges and universities that are "test optional" (or test optional for international students) will still accept ACT or SAT scores if a student submits them. Some of these colleges and universities have a policy that a bad ACT/SAT score cannot hurt an applicant's chances for acceptance while a good ACT/SAT score can improve one's chances. Others, however, may see a bad score as a negative against the applicant, which can negatively impact that applicant's chances to be admitted. So if you have already taken the ACT or SAT and are considering whether to submit the scores to a "test optional" college or university, you may want to consider how your score matches to the profile of admitted students at that institution. This data is frequently posted on the college or university's website. If you've done well on your ACT or SAT, it may be to your benefit to submit those scores to "test optional" universities simply to showcase your abilities.

The University of North Texas does not require international students to take the ACT or the SAT to be considered for admission. We encourage students to take it though who seek specific scholarships requiring SAT/ACT scores.
