In China, we can't take SAT or ACT. We go to Hong Kong to take it. I was going to take SAT in Hong Kong but I just learned ACT taken there also. How can I decide which test is best for me? Is one easier than the other? Thnx!

One Answer:

This is an excellent question. The two exams measure different things, so some students do better on one while others do better on the other. Choosing which exam to take is an extremely important decision that can impact whether or not a student gets into the college or university of their choice. Don't take it lightly!

Neither exam is easier or more difficult than the other, as it will depend on your individual skill sets. The ACT is more of a curriculum test, measuring the specific knowledge you have learned in core coursework (English, maths, reading, etc.), while the SAT is more of a reasoning or critical thinking test. Since the vast majority of 4-year colleges and universities in the United States accept both exams equally, students need to select the exam they are most likely to score better on.

Probably the best way to decide which exam is right for you is to get a practice exam for each and see which you score better on or feel more comfortable with. Below are links to both an ACT and an SAT practice test, as well as to the ACT-SAT Concordance Tables so you can compare your scores.
